ElizaBETH ROSS YURICH statement about Brandt Gallery solo show
It seems that today's most intimate moments include a cell phone for texting, answering, or checking social media sites. Postings scream, "Check Me! Check me!" Do we really need to know this information or is it the posting person's need to tell? We spend years looking for the love of our life, maybe even finding him or her on Match.com, and yet it sometimes appears we are more connected to an avatar than the person in front of us.
Are we missing out on life’s experiences? What are we talking about in all these messages? Is it all that important? Is what we want right in front of us or in cyber space? What will happen if we left our phone in the car? ElizaBETH does not know the answers to these questions; so she is exploring through art whether social media makes us more social or less social.
